Airtel Money Kenya has partnered with eCitizen, the government’s online portal, to allow Airtel Money customers to pay for government services at reduced rates.
This collaboration comes after the government’s directive in June requiring payments for over 1,000 government Paybill numbers to be consolidated under Paybill 222222. The move aimed to enhance efficiency but meant Kenyans would now incur paybill fees when making payments.

To provide relief, the Central Bank of Kenya pushed for interoperability between paybill and mobile money platforms like Airtel Money and T-Kash. This allows citizens to avoid the high charges of popular services like M-PESA when paying for government services.
Under the new partnership, Airtel Money customers will enjoy up to 25% lower fees compared to other mobile money platforms when paying for the over 9,000 government services available on eCitizen.
Services include passport, e-visa, driver’s license, and ID applications, among others. Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, the Managing Director of Airtel Money Kenya, expressed the company’s commitment to convenience and collaboration with essential services, stating, “Airtel Money’s decision to partner with eCitizen aligns with our commitment to offering convenience by collaborating with essential day-to-day service providers for the benefit of customers. This partnership also reflects Airtel Money’s support for government-led initiatives, making it a perfect opportunity for further growth and innovation.”
