The Anzisha Prize, Africa’s biggest award for young entrepreneurs aged 15–22, has opened applications for its 2023/24 funding cycle. The focus this year is on green entrepreneurs who combine innovation and sustainability to positively impact the environment.
Who Qualifies as a Green Entrepreneur?
A green entrepreneur identifies and develops business opportunities that address environmental challenges while generating profits. They are driven by a passion for sustainability and creating positive impact across sectors like:
- Renewable Energy
- Sustainable Agriculture
- Waste Management
- Food Upcycling
- Eco-Friendly Products
What the Anzisha Prize Offers Green Entrepreneurs
With a focus on green entrepreneurship, four exceptional applicants will join 29 total entrepreneurs in the 2023/24 cohort. They have the opportunity to win a share of over US$60,000 in cash prizes and receive valuable practical support.

“These businesses are helping reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, conserve resources, and protect ecosystems,” says Onwu. “They also create new jobs and opportunities in the green economy.”
Ongoing Support for Top Entrepreneurs
Successful fellowship applicants have their performance tracked. Businesses showing exemplary growth and initiative receive benefits like short courses, cloud services, and cash stipends.
In the second year, they pitch their successes to win a share of US$60,000 in prizes across four categories:
- Job Creation
- Revenue Growth
- Storytelling
- Integrating Systems and Processes
Anzisha fellows also join an alumni network offering invaluable connections for further business growth.

Applications for the fellowship, which can be found online, close on 30 December. The 2023/24 fellows will be announced in June 2024.
