Japanese electronics giant Seiko Epson recently accomplished a significant sustainability achievement, fully transitioning to renewable energy sources across global operations by December 2023.
This makes Epson the first in its industry to realize 100% renewable electricity usage for all facilities worldwide, including Japan.
Annually, Epson consumes around 876 GWh of electricity. Switching completely to clean energy sources like solar and wind enables slashing Epson’s carbon emissions by approximately 400,000 metric tonnes per year.
The renewable power milestone accelerates Epson’s ambitious sustainability goals outlined in its Environmental Vision 2050.
These targets encompass becoming carbon-negative and ceasing the use of underground natural resources. Shifting to 100% renewable electricity plays a vital part in driving this environmental vision.
Committed to Green Energy Since 2021
In March 2021, Epson publicly pledged to fully adopt renewable power by 2023. They initially achieved this in Japan by November 2021, then globally by December 2023, demonstrating determined sustainability leadership.
“Our renewable energy journey started in March 2021 when we made our commitment public,” said Mukesh Bector, Epson’s Regional Head for East and West Africa. “Reaching 100% in under three years highlights our environmental dedication.”
Advancing Renewables Adoption Worldwide
Epson also actively promotes broader global renewable energy adoption. Efforts incorporate generating Epson’s own renewable power and sparking new collaborative clean energy projects.
