Global delivery platform Glovo has launched an ambitious graduate program in Kenya, seeking to nurture young talent in the country and tackle the pressing issue of youth unemployment. The Nairobi-headquartered company is responding to the widening skills mismatch in the Kenyan job market, where over 3.5 million youth are currently unemployed, according to 2022 government statistics.
Out of every 10 jobless Kenyans, seven are aged below 35 years. Experts have warned that such dire figures among the youth demographic will have far-reaching socioeconomic consequences if unaddressed.

Glovo’s Rasheeda Sedhosime, Head of People Africa, notes that the talent development initiative demonstrates their long-term investment towards “building the next generation of industry leaders across the continent.”
“The future of Africa lies in the energy and innovation of our youth. As a prime tech employer, we believe it is our responsibility to help brilliant young graduates gain the right skills, mindsets and experience needed to transform societies,” Sedhosime said.
Aligning Youth Skills With Industry Demand
Government bodies like the State Department of Trade have also highlighted the urgent need for robust collaboration between academia and employers to nurture industry-relevant competencies among graduates.
This will prevent resource-intensive retraining once students transition into full-time employment.
Digital training firm Ajira Digital has also been advocating for youth agility in skill-building, noting that the modern workplace seeks multifaceted competencies beyond formal academic specializations.
By taking concrete action to upskill graduates with an employability-focused program, Glovo is setting a positive example for other employers in Kenya to similarly foster youth talent, so crucial to the county’s digital economic ambitions.
