The Contact Joined Telegram push alert on Telegram can get pretty annoying and in this article, we’ll show you how to disable it.
When we think of popular messaging applications, Telegram is mostly on top of the list. Telegram has for may years been the leader when it come to introducing features that enhance the messaging experience for its users.
However, there’s one feature from the messaging app that can be bothersome and in my opinion serves no practical purpose.
Whenever a contact from your list creates a Telegram account, the app tends to send you an alert notifying you that “Contact Joined Telegram”. The purpose of this notification is to encourage you to chat with them on Telegram instead of other messaging apps.
However, this notification can be bothersome especially when you have multiple people from your contact list join the messaging app.
In this article, we will give you step-by-step instructions on how to disable this notification on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Android phone.
Turn off the Contact Joined Telegram alert on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac
Whether you are using an iPhone, iPad or Mac, the steps to turning off the alert are almost identical. Here’s how to go about it:
- Open the Telegram app and tap Settings.
- Tap Notifications and Sounds.
- Scroll down and turn off the switch for New Contacts.
On Android devices
On your Android devices follow the following steps:
- Open the Telegram app and tap the menu icon from the top left.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Notifications and Sounds.
- Turn off Contact joined Telegram.
Alternative way: Don’t give Telegram access to your contacts
There is no need to allow the Telegram app to access your phone contacts if you don’t message your friends, family, or individuals here, but rather use the app only for channels, groups, or bots. As a result, since the app can’t read your contact phone numbers, it will not notify you when someone from your phone book joins Telegram.
You can deny the app from accessing your contacts while setting up Telegram. Or, if you have already set it up and given it access, you can revoke that using these steps:
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Contacts to see all iOS apps that have requested access to your phone contacts.
- Turn off the switch next to Telegram.
On you Android devices, follow the following steps:
- Open settings and head over to your Privacy Settings.
- Tap on Permissions Manager then tap on Contacts
- Turn off the switch next to Telegram
After following the above steps, you’ll need to clear your contacts from Telegram’s servers. To do this:
- Open Telegram and tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy and Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Synced Contacts > Delete.
You have successfully removed your contacts from Telegram’s server, and now you will not receive an alert when a person from your contacts joins this messaging service.
