Residents of Kibera, one of the largest informal settlements in Nairobi, Kenya, are set to benefit from a partnership between Ahadi Wireless (Konnect) and the Livelihood Impact Fund.
This collaboration aims to provide households with low-cost data connectivity, addressing the challenges faced by many Kenyans in accessing affordable internet services.
In a nation where high data prices and a lack of competition in the telecommunications sector have hindered internet accessibility, this initiative promises to be a game-changer. “The cost of the Internet in Kenya is costly and expensive, and most people living in lowland areas cannot afford to have internet in their homes. We want these people to have experience in having quality internet at affordable rates, which will help them have access to information on what is happening around the world,” said Johnstone Namusasi, Director of Konnect.
Bridging the Digital Divide in Kibera
The rising cost of living and exorbitant data prices have made it challenging for residents of informal settlements like Kibera to afford internet bundles. This partnership seeks to dismantle these barriers and bring the digital world closer to communities that have been left behind in the digital revolution.
In addition to Kibera, the company’s services are available in areas such as Lucky Summer, Githurai 45, Mirema, Hunters, Roysambu, Zimmerman, Kahawa West, and Githurai 44.
Konnect, known for its commitment to providing affordable and reliable internet access to underserved urban communities, has made it a policy to hire young people from the areas they serve.

This initiative not only offers internet connectivity but also creates job opportunities across various sectors, including sales, marketing, technical support, and even roles like cooks and cleaners.
Transforming Lives and Businesses
For individuals like Alfred Ochieng, a young entrepreneur who sells second-hand clothes online, this initiative is a game-changer. “The affordable internet packages will significantly boost my business,” he said, encouraging the youth in Kibera to leverage this opportunity to enhance their income.

Daniel Muthama, Project Manager at Livelihood Impact Fund, underscored their support for Ahadi Wireless Internet, emphasizing their commitment to improving the lives of Kibera residents. “Internet has many benefits, like creating employment,” Muthama noted, underscoring the transformative potential of the initiative.
By tackling the digital divide in Kenya and offering affordable internet access, Konnect contributes to the economic growth and overall well-being of the communities it serves.
Through partnerships like this, residents of Kibera and other underserved areas can access information, educational resources, and online opportunities, paving the way for a more inclusive and connected society.
