Medium, the popular platform for reading and writing, has expanded its Partner Program to include writers from over 75 new countries, including Kenya.
The program enables writers to earn money for their published stories based on the engagement and activity of Medium members.
Global Expansion and Diverse Perspectives
With this expansion, the Medium Partner Program is now available in more than 115 countries, encompassing every nation where Stripe operates.
This move aligns with Medium’s vision of creating a more inclusive and diverse writing community. Tony Stubblebine, CEO of Medium, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, “At Medium, we believe there are great stories everywhere. We are trying to build a better internet because we want to be a home for perspectives from as diverse a set of countries, demographics, cultures, and lived experiences as we can.”
How the Medium Partner Program Works
The Medium Partner Program is designed to reward writers for their contributions to the platform. As a unique feature, Medium operates without advertisements and is fully supported by its community of over one million members.

Eligibility Criteria for the Medium Partner Program
To join the Partner Program, writers must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Medium member
- Have published a story within the last 6 months
- Have a bank account and file taxes in an eligible country
- Possess a Stripe account for payment processing
- Be at least 18 years old
Interested writers who meet these qualifications can apply to the Partner Program here: https://medium.com/partner-program
Medium has also implemented a minimum payout threshold of $10 (KES 1,300). If a writer’s stories do not earn $10 (KES 1,300) in a given month, the balance will roll over to the following month until the minimum threshold is met.
For example, if a writer earns $6 (KES 680) in January and $5 (KES 650) in February, Medium will send the total earnings of $11 (KES 1,430) in early March.
Enhanced Features for Partner Program Participants
Along with the geographical expansion, Medium has introduced several improvements to enhance the experience for Partner Program writers:
- Expansion of the Boost Nominator Pilot Program, which now includes a more diverse range of editors from all Partner Program countries.
- An updated Partner Program dashboard with improved features for tracking earning history, tax withholding, and Stripe account fees.
- Enhanced monitoring capabilities for payout history and rollover balance.
- A comprehensive breakdown of monthly and lifetime story earnings.
- Streamlined payout settings management.
Membership Promotion and New Countries
For those interested in becoming Medium members and potentially joining the Partner Program, Medium is currently offering a 20% discount on memberships for a limited time.
