The Project Management Institute (PMI), globally known for its influence in project management, has acquired Cognilytica, an organization specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data analytics.
This acquisition adds Cognilytica’s expertise and resources directly to PMI’s offerings, advancing PMI’s commitment to equipping project managers with AI and ML tools to support contemporary project requirements.
With this acquisition, PMI plans to integrate Cognilytica’s certifications and educational content, particularly the CPMAI (Certified Project Manager for AI) program, into its catalog.
This move allows PMI members access to Cognilytica’s knowledge resources, including research materials, advisory services, the AI Today podcast, and numerous AI-focused educational resources.
Cognilytica’s leadership team, including AI experts Ron Schmelzer and Kathleen Walch, will join PMI to continue their work on improving AI and data systems for project management.
Increasing Demand for Generative AI in Project Management
In line with these changes, PMI recently released a report, “Pushing the Limits: Transforming Project Management with GenAI Innovation,” revealing that two in five project managers now actively use generative AI in more than half of their projects.

Enhanced Capabilities with PMI Infinity™ 2.0
Alongside the Cognilytica acquisition, PMI has launched an enhanced version of PMI Infinity™, its AI assistant for project managers.
PMI Infinity™ 2.0, powered by GPT-4o (omni), offers an expanded knowledge base and optimizations for faster, more accurate responses.
The upgrade includes new document generation tools and custom templates, enabling project managers to streamline their workflows.
This feature allows users to input details and generate essential documents like project charters, increasing efficiency in document preparation.
PMI CEO Pierre Le Manh commented on these developments, stating that PMI’s latest initiatives aim to equip project managers with cutting-edge tools to lead organizational transformation effectively.
By combining PMI’s established project management resources with Cognilytica’s AI and ML expertise, PMI hopes to redefine project management in an AI-driven landscape.
