Samsung has officially taken the wraps off its highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S24 flagship series, packed with a host of new artificial intelligence (AI) features to enhance user experiences.
Headlined by real-time voice and text translation, intuitive editing tools, and simplified on-device search, the next-gen devices lean heavily into AI to simplify daily tasks.
The new lineup, unveiled at Samsung’s Unpacked event yesterday, comprises three models: the base Galaxy S24, the larger Galaxy S24 Plus, and the top-tier Galaxy S24 Ultra. All three boast upgrades like brighter displays, improved chipsets, and bumped battery capacities versus their S23 predecessors.
But the real story lies in the extensive AI capabilities woven throughout, from photography to productivity and accessibility. Samsung is billing its “Galaxy AI” platform as a milestone for mobile, using intelligence to break down barriers and streamline phone use.
The Galaxy S24 and S24+
The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ feature subtle exterior enhancements and significant internal upgrades, including an array of Galaxy AI features. The display sizes have been marginally increased by 0.1 inches, resulting in a 6.2-inch screen for the S24 and a 6.7-inch screen for the S24+.
These screens are brighter than ever, boasting a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, with the S24+ also receiving an upgrade to a 1440p resolution from 1080p.
The camera system, comprising a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP 3x telephoto, remains unchanged from the S23 series.
However, both phones now offer a suite of AI-powered editing features and enhanced support for HDR photography. This includes the Photos app, which can analyze photos and suggest improvements based on the composition and subject matter.
In the US, both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, while the Exynos 2400 for Galaxy chip is used in other regions, Kenya included.
The S24 comes with 8GB of RAM, while the S24+ is equipped with 12GB. Battery capacity has also been slightly increased, with the S24 featuring a 4,000mAh battery and the S24+ having a 4,900mAh battery.
All three Galaxy S24 models promise seven years of major OS updates and seven years of security updates.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra
The Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung’s flagship model, offers more features than the average user might need, but that’s precisely its appeal.
This year, Samsung has opted for a titanium case for enhanced durability. The device also supports Wi-Fi 7 for improved connectivity with compatible network equipment.
The 6.8-inch screen is now flat, abandoning the curved glass edges of the Note series, which enhances the phone’s aesthetics and makes it easier to use with the S Pen.
One significant change is the replacement of the S23 Ultra’s 10x zoom with a 50-megapixel 5x zoom for superior image quality.
The remaining cameras, including a 200 MP main camera, a 10 MP 3x telephoto, and a 12 MP ultrawide camera, remain unchanged, with the selfie camera still at 12 MP.
The S24 Ultra is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset, regardless of where it is purchased. The other two S24 models use this chipset in the US and Exynos chips in other regions.
New AI Features
Samsung recently unveiled its latest Galaxy S24 series, representing a major advancement in mobile artificial intelligence to enhance user experiences.
The standout Galaxy AI features real-time translation and instant text-to-speech in over 10 languages, removing language barriers during calls and conversations without WiFi. Unfortunately, African languages are not yet supported.
Key Galaxy AI Capabilities:
- Live Translate for real-time voice and text translations during calls
- ProVisual AI engine to capture and edit photos
- Circle Search tool enables gesture-driven Google searches
- AI-powered editing for intuitive photo and video creation
