Samsung Electronics East Africa has closed pre-orders for the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 foldable smartphones in Kenya. The company saw pre-order sales surpass targets by over 25%, cementing its market leadership in foldable devices.
Successful Pre-Order Campaign Driven by Strategic Partnerships
The successful pre-order campaign was driven by strategic partnerships with device financing partner Absa Kenya and trade-in partner Badili Africa. Absa Kenya offered flexible 3-12 month financing options on new Galaxy devices for Absa credit card holders. Badili enabled customers to trade in older devices and upgrade to the latest foldable smartphones.

Charles Kimari, Director of Mobile Experience at Samsung Electronics East Africa, attributed the strong sales to these strategic partnerships. He noted the Flip5 saw higher demand than the Fold5 this year, indicating shifting purchase trends in the foldable category.
‘The Fold has always been the driver for the Foldable smartphone category but this year we have seen a shift in purchase trends, with a higher number of purchases for the Flip. We can attribute this to the acquisition steps we have taken like partnership with Badili Africa who offer trade in service and our new partnership with Absa Kenya who offer device financing payment methods which will allow our customers to acquire these devices,” said Mr Charles Kimari, Director of Mobile Experience Samsung Electronics East Africa.
