Spotify Premium has long offered offline playback, allowing subscribers to listen to songs manually downloaded without an internet connection.
However, many users often forget to download their favorite playlists before flights or other offline activities, which prevents them from streaming music on the go.
To address this issue, Spotify has introduced a new feature called Spotify Offline Backup.
What Is Spotify Offline Backup?
The Spotify Offline Backup feature relies on the app’s cache to serve users a list of songs they’ve previously listened to, enabling them to access these tracks offline.
This playlist compiles all cached songs, so as long as the Spotify app’s cache has not been cleared, you can listen to your favorite tunes without needing to download them manually.
This is especially useful for Spotify Premium users who often forget to prepare their playlists for offline listening.

However, it’s important to remember that mobile apps typically have a limited cache size, and older data will be cleared automatically when the cache exceeds its threshold.
As a result, the Offline Backup feature applies only to local song caches that haven’t been wiped yet.
I should note that rival service YouTube Music, also has a similar feature called Offline mixtape along with an option to auto-download liked music.
YouTube Music can also automatically download up to 500 songs in different playlists if users turn on the “Smart download” functionality.
Personalizing Your Offline Playlist
Spotify allows users to sort and filter the songs in the offline playlist based on genre, mood, and artist, making the experience even more tailored to your preferences.
For this feature to work, you need to have recently streamed more than five songs and have enabled offline listening.
To adjust your settings, go to Settings and Privacy > Storage > Offline Listening or Settings and Privacy > Playback > Offline Toggles.
Once these settings are enabled, the offline playlist will automatically appear in the Home tab whenever your device loses connection.
You can also add the list to your library for easier access. If the feature doesn’t appear, ensure that your Spotify app is updated to the latest version and that you have an active Spotify Premium subscription.
