Threads, the text-based social networking app from Instagram, is finally giving users the ability to save posts—a feature that has been highly requested and puts it in closer competition with X, formally Twitter, and other rivals in the space.
As announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, Threads has begun testing a bookmark option that lets users save their favorite posts to revisit later. The feature can be found under the “More Options” three-dot menu in the top right corner of posts.

While Instagram itself has allowed saving posts since 2016, this capability has been noticeably absent from Threads until now.
The introduction of bookmarks brings Threads’ functionality more in line with competitors like Twitter, Mastodon, and Post—platforms that make saving content for future reference easy.
As you can see from the example screens above, Threads’ new “Save” option will be available in the three-dot menu on any post in the app—a weird place to put it, if you ask me.
Saved posts will then be available in your profile menu options, the same as they are on Instagram.
The addition of bookmarks suggests Threads is aiming to better appeal to users and match the capabilities of rival text-based social networks. Just last month, Threads confirmed it was working on a “Trends” feature similar to Twitter to highlight trending topics.
As Threads continues testing bookmarks, it remains to be seen whether the save option will ultimately be made more visible and accessible.
For Threads fans and users focused on text-based sharing, the rollout of bookmarks addresses a major gap versus other top social competitors. It also continues Threads’ evolution toward a robust, feature-packed platform equipped to take on apps like X and Mastodon.
