Google announced a new look and feel for the Gmail application earlier this year. The new design integrated various Google features into one, including Spaces, Chat and Meet.
Users we’re not forced to change over to the new design immediately. Google did provide a grace period for users to switch over to the new design but did not indicate when the grace period would end.
But according to an official blog post, the ability for users to use the traditional (old) Gmail design will cease sometime this month. There’s no specific date or time indicated for the forced switch, but it should be soon.
If you haven’t switched to the new Gmail view, here’s how to go about it:
How To Opt In To The New Gmail View
In order to use the new view, you must turn on Chat in Gmail and set Chat to the left hand panel. To turn on Chat head over to Settings -> Chat and Meet then enable Google Chat.
Opt In To The New View
- At the top right, click Settings .
- Under “Quick settings,” click Try out the new Gmail view.
- In the new window, click Reload.
Opt Out Of The New View
- At the top right, click Settings .
- Under “Quick settings,” click Go back to the original Gmail view.
- In the new window, click Reload.
There are many benefits to using the new design, having everything on the left side of the screen and easily accessible makes logical sense. You also have the option to use Gmail Themes to customize the look and feel of the application to your liking.
We recommend switching to the new design and familiarize yourself with it instead of waking up one day to find everything switched.
