The Vivo X Fold 2 is one of the most anticipated foldable phones of the year and is set to be released soon. As with any upcoming smartphone release, rumors and speculations have been swirling around the internet, but we have gathered everything we know so far about the Vivo X Fold 2.
From the device’s design and specifications to its expected features and release date, we’ve got you covered. Keep reading to learn more about the new foldable in town from Vivo.
When will the X Fold 2 get launched?
First things first, when will the X Fold 2 get launched? Well, Vivo has actually confirmed that the foldable will officially be launched in China on 20 April alongside the Vivo X Flip and Vivo Pad 2.
This launch date is similar to that of Vivo’s first foldable smartphone, the Vivo X Fold, which debuted in April 2022.
A point of worry for the global market is that the X Fold was only launched in China and did not receive an official global release. It was possible to purchase the phone through import, but this process can be intimidating and costly.
We don’t know if this will be the case with the Vivo X Fold 2, but we hope that this time around the company opens the product up to a wider fanbase.
Design, specs and features
According to renowned Chinese tech reporter, , the main display of the X Fold 2 will measure 8.03 inches when unfolded, with a 1,916 x 2,160 resolution, 4:3.5 aspect ratio, and 360ppi density.
The display will fold vertically to show off the secondary display that is expected to measure 6.53 inches diagonally but with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio, 1,080 x 2,520 resolution, and 420ppi density.
The secondary display will also feature an in-display fingerprint scanner on board, though the leaks do not clarify which display they will be on.
Both displays could support HDR10+ and have a max refresh rate of 120Hz. The overall dimensions of the phone will be 161.3mm × 73.4mm × 13mm, with a weight of 280g.
Powering everything will be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and options of 256GB and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
If this rumors are true, the Vivo X Fold 2 will be the first foldable to feature the 8 Gen 2 SoC.
There will be a 4,800mAh battery on board that can do 120W wired and 50W wireless fast charging.
For the cameras, the Vivo X Fold 2 is rumored to feature a 50MP primary sensor with f/1.75 aperture, a 12MP f/2.0 ultrawide with a 108° FoV, and a 12MP portrait camera.
A 16MP camera is expected on the outer display, although the leaks do not mention the camera spec of the camera on the inner display.
Finally, the vivo X Fold 2 is expected to come in three colors: Blue, Black, and Red.
How much will the Vivo X Fold 2 cost?
There is no concrete information available about the expected price of the Vivo X Fold 2 upon its release. However, we can get an idea of its pricing by examining the cost of the previous generation:
- 12GB RAM + 256GB storage: ¥8,999 (around $1,400/£1,100/€1,300/Ksh 189,000)
- 12GB RAM + 512GB storage: ¥9,999 (around $1,550/£1,200/€1,450/Ksh 202,000)
As expenses continue to rise for various things, including technology, it is conceivable that these already high prices may increase even more.
However, Vivo may decide to maintain the current pricing so that customers can afford to purchase the new X Fold, rather than just dreaming about it from outside the stores in Shanghai.
That’s all we know on the X Fold 2 at the time of writing, but we’ll be updating this article as we find out more.
