If you’re one of the billions of WhatsApp users around the world, you might have noticed a few changes over the last couple of months.
Well, that’s because the popular messaging platform has been rolling out new features to enhance the user experience and provide even more ways to connect with friends and family.
From WhatsApp Communities to the ability to use one account on multiple smartphones, the Meta owned company has been on the roll.
In keeping with their spirit of introducing new features and updates, WhatsApp has recently revealed a fresh chat function called “WhatsApp Keep in Chat.”
This feature is an expansion of the Disappearing Messages feature that was already in existence on the platform.
WhatsApp Keep in Chat: What is it?
As mentioned earlier, the Keep in Chat feature is an extension of the Disappearing Messages feature on the platform but with a twist. See, when you’ve got the Disappearing Messages feature enabled, all your messages disappear after the set timer expires.
But there are some instances where you’d want to keep some messages for future reference. For instance, someone sends you a message containing location details that you’re likely to use again in the future.
Naturally, you wouldn’t want this message to disappear with the rest of the messages.
And this is where the WhatsApp Keep in Chats feature comes in.
This features is meant to help users prevent the disappearing of select messages when the Disappearing Messages feature is enabled.
How does it work?
According to the official WhatsApp blog post, users will be able to select a message from any chat and choose to keep it.
Once the Keep in Chat feature is enabled for a particular chat, messages in that chat will not disappear despite having the disappearing messages option enabled for that chat.
The sender of the message will also be notified that the recipient would like to keep their message ad the sender will have the option to veto that decision.
If the sender decides that they don’t want their message to be kept, their decision is final and the message will be deleted when the timer expires.
Basically, the sender of the message will have the final say.
Where to locate the saved messages
Saved messages on your WhatsApp will be noted with a bookmark icon and you will see these messages, organized by chat, in the dedicated Kept Messages folder.
