Popular messaging platform WhatsApp has rolled out a handy “search by date” feature for Android users. This new capability allows people to easily look up old individual and group conversations by specifying a particular date.
As announced by Mark Zuckerberg via his WhatsApp channel, Android users can now search for chats from a certain date instead of just keyword searches. In a video, Zuckerberg demonstrated looking up an old Karaoke conversation from his archives.
To use the search by date functionality, open the details page for any one-on-one chat or WhatsApp group. Tap the search icon and then the calendar icon to pick the exact date you want to search for.
This makes it simple to rediscover meaningful or funny conversations from years ago. Users can only search for a chat on a particular date instead of specifying a date range.
The date search is in addition to WhatsApp’s existing chat search filters, including the ability to search for links, media, documents, and more. The company continues to experiment with additional filters too, like “Unread” and “Favorites” chats.
WhatsApp has been on a roll, launching new features to improve the user experience. Last week, the messaging platform also added support for new text formatting options such as bulleted lists, numbered lists, block quotes, and inline code for individual and group chat, along with Channels.
The launch on Android comes after the feature has already been available on iOS devices and WhatsApp’s desktop and web apps. It provides a better search experience, so people can easily find old information and memories.
WhatsApp seeks to improve search to facilitate productive conversations and make communication easier for over 2 billion users worldwide. With convenient additions like search by date, WhatsApp chats become even more useful archives of your interactions with close friends, family members, and work colleagues.
