Xiaomi has announced a new breakthrough in fast charging technology that can fully charge a phone battery in just 5 minutes.
In this particular instance, the Chinese company used a Redmi Note 12 Pro+ which apparently uses a new type of battery. This new battery uses carbon materials in place of graphite which reduces the electrodes’ thickness by about 35%.
Combined with a new electrolyte formula, this lithium-ion battery packs higher power density with a faster charge and discharge rate, reducing the amount of heat produced..
From the video, the phone peaks at 290.6W charging speeds, falling just short of 300W. According to Xiaomi, the phone can reach 10% charge in 43 seconds, 50% charge in 2 minutes and 13 seconds, and 100% charge in 5 minutes
This is a significant improvement over Xiaomi’s previous record of 210W wired charging, which could charge a phone with a similar battery capacity in about eight minutes.
Xiaomi claims that its 300W charging technology is safe and reliable, and does not affect the battery life or performance of the phone14.
When Will This New Xiaomi Battery Tech Get To The Masses?
Xiaomi did not reveal when it plans to launch its 300W charging technology commercially, or which models will support it. However, it is likely that Xiaomi will first introduce it on its flagship devices before rolling it out to other segments.
Xiaomi’s announcement comes at a time when fast charging has become one of the key features that consumers look for when buying a new smartphone.
Other competitors like Oppo, Vivo, Realme, and Samsung have also introduced fast-charging technologies ranging from 45W to 240W, but none of them can match Xiaomi’s speed.
What do you think of Xiaomi’s new achievement? Do you think fast charging is important for your smartphone usage?
