YEGO Global, a Rwandese taxi hailing company has officially expanded its services into the Kenyan market through its subdivision – YEGO Mobility Kenya Limited.
YEGO’s entry into the market comes barely a week after drivers working under Uber, Bolt, and Little Cab held protests against high commissions on fares charged by the three taxi hailing companies. YEGO seeks to shake up the taxi business in the Kenyan market by offering drivers who sign up to the platform the lowest commissions in the industry at 12%, compared to the 18% and 15% offered by platforms like Uber and Little Cab respectively.
Besides offering drivers the lowest commissions in the country, YEGO drivers will also be provided with personal accident insurance at no cost and medical insurance to qualifying drivers.
YEGO also said fares will also be kept in line with the prevailing fuel prices and traffic situations. Drivers will also e able to withdraw their earnings on demand with the actual processing fees. A drivers’ SACCO (savings and credit cooperative) is being set up. YEGO Mobility Kenya has committed to pay 10 per cent of its dividend to the SACCO to secure the drivers’ future.
YEGO Global has been in operation in Rwanda since 2016 and was the first licensee in Rwanda to provide a smart mobility solution using Intelligent Connected Fare Meters (ICFM). YEGO Global has 100% market share of the taxicab and bodaboda market in Kigali and will expand to cover the entire country.
With all the benefits being part of the signed agreements with Drivers, YEGO Mobility Kenya says it is dedicated in delivering its promise of Making Lives Better.
Customers using YEGO will also enjoy a handy booking feature where they’ll be able to start a ride by simply scanning a QR code with the unique ‘Pair Ride’. This feature is unique to YEGO and is not available on any other cab hailing application in the country.
The YEGO application will also have an in-app wallet that will allow passengers to simply walk away at the end of the ride without having to pull out cash or even enter a PIN.
YEGO Mobility Kenya says that over 5,000 drivers have joined the platform in just 15 days.
