OPPO Reno 8T 5G Design
We have the 5G variant in the Midnight Black color and it looks very impressive from the front as well as the back. It has a premium feel as the display and the back panel of the phone taper towards the edges.
The top and bottom bezels (2.32mm chin) are slim and appear symmetrical, and the polycarbonate back panel shows off different colors when viewed from different angles.
OPPO Reno 8T 5G: Display
This has to be the phone’s biggest highlight. The Reno 8T 5G has a flagship-level 6.7-inch AMOLED screen, which produces an FHD+ resolution, up to a 120Hz refresh rate, and 10-bit colors.
The screen-to-body ratio is approximately 93%, this means that the phone has a nearly edge-to-edge display. The display is also curved but the curvature isn’t that dramatic, meaning you won’t get any annoying accidental touches.
We also noticed that the display comes with a screen protector installed already.
Performance & Battery
The Oppo Reno 8T is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. The Snapdragon 695 is a lower midrange SoC but runs every day tasks with ease.
In our short period with the device, we’ve not experienced any slowdowns or slugs. The performance is of the device is also enhanced by it’s software.
The phone runs Android 13-based ColorOS 13 which comes with various customizations and options to personalize your experience. We were pretty impressed that the Reno 8T 5G comes with Android 13 outside the box.
This is because we’ve seen much more expensive devices launch with lower versions of Android outside the box.
If you happen to be microSD lover, you’ll be pleased to know that there is a micro SD card slot for expandable storage of up to 1TB.
The Cameras
The OPPO Reno8 T 5G boasts an impressive triple-lens camera system. The Reno 8T 5G inherits the reliable 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 selfie sensor from the Reno 8 and Reno 7 series.
The front facing camera on the Reno 8T 5G supports HDR and panorama modes, and can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps which is enough for majority of smartphone user.
The Reno 8T 5G is the first Oppo phone to feature a 108-megapixel Samsung HM6 camera. It is assisted by a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a 2-megapixel micro lens with support for 40x magnification.
Availability & Pricing
The OPPO Reno 8T series is scheduled to be unveiled in Nairobi on Thursday, February 16th, 2023 with details about the pricing yet to be confirmed.
What We Think So Far
The Oppo Reno 8T 5G looks good, feels good, and comes with premium specs. From the short time we have had with the device, the OPPO Reno 8T 5G is a decent option for those who want an attractive device at an attractive price point.
The device is 5G ready, offers fast charging, and a 108MP camera, which makes it tick many boxes for most people. We will be publishing our full review of the OPPO Reno 8T 5G soon, so stay tuned for that.
