Safaricom has launched a service called Safricom Daima that lets it’s users keep their lines active for a period up to 2 years without further topping up. The service seeks to address the issue of inactive lines for users who may be living or travelling abroad for a long period of time.

Technically anyone with a Safaricom line and is unable to use it for one reason or another but does not want it deactivated will benefit from this new service. According to the country’s telecommunication regulations, a customer needs to have used a provider’s service within the previous 90 days to be considered as active. Telecommunication operators are required to reissue inactive customer lines to new users.

Safaricom Daima Charges

Here’s a breakdown of the packages and charges Safaricom Daima offers.

PERIODCHARGES
6 months200
1 year500
2 years1,000

According to the terms and conditions, you will be getting 20 minutes of talk time and 20 SMSs every month for the period you’ve paid for. These resources won’t carry over, and will be expiring each month.

How To Activate Safaricom Daima

This service is only available for Prepaid customers only since Postpaid users are technically always active.

  1. Dial *100# and choose Option 4 for My Account
  2. Then choose option 9 Daima (keep line active)
  3. Choose either of the above options and pay with either Airtime or M-Pesa

There’s also a Buy For Other Number option. This is extremely helpful if somebody who wants the service activated is not in the country or cannot access the service.

In the quarter ending June 2022, Safaricom had 42.5 million mobile (SIM) subscriptions, majority being Prepay customers at 41.4 million.
