As the tech world eagerly anticipates the arrival of Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, rumors and leaks about the Samsung Galaxy S24 have started to emerge. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll take you through all the juicy details we’ve gathered so far, from design and display to performance and camera specs. We’ll also discuss what we hope to see in the Galaxy S24 series, as well as pricing and release date expectations.

Samsung Galaxy S24: Release Date and Pricing

Though the Galaxy S24 series is still several months away, it’s a safe bet to predict that Samsung will unveil the new phones at a Galaxy Unpacked event in January or February 2024. The event could also showcase other Samsung gadgets, but the spotlight will undoubtedly be on the Galaxy S24 lineup.

Pricing remains a mystery, but we can speculate that Samsung may maintain the current 999, and $1,199 price points for the standard, Plus, and Ultra models, respectively. We hope this holds true for the UK and Australian markets as well, as the Galaxy S23 was slightly more expensive than its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy S24: Design and Display

Samsung is expected to continue its three-part Galaxy S lineup with the Galaxy S24 series. This means we’ll likely see a 6.1-inch standard model, a 6.6-inch Galaxy S24 Plus, and a 6.8-inch Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, there have been rumors suggesting the possible discontinuation of the Plus model due to its lower popularity compared to the standard and Ultra versions.

As for design, the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus may retain the same design as their S23 counterparts, with curved corners and flat sides. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, on the other hand, could keep the Galaxy Note’s legacy alive with curved edges and right-angled corners.

For the displays, we can expect AMOLED panels with a 120Hz maximum refresh rate on all models. The regular and Plus models may have a 48Hz minimum refresh rate, while the Ultra model could feature a more efficient 1Hz minimum refresh rate. The standard S24 and S24 Plus would likely sport FHD resolution, while the S24 Ultra may boast a higher-resolution QHD display.

Samsung Galaxy S24: Cameras

At this point, there aren’t many rumored changes for the standard Galaxy S24 models’ cameras. However, it’s been suggested that the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus might have the same 50MP cameras as the Galaxy S23 series. We can also expect the 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto, and 12MP selfie sensors from the S23 models to make an appearance on the equivalent S24 models.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera setup might not see any significant changes either, retaining its 200MP main sensor and 12MP ultrawide and selfie cameras. One notable rumor, though, points to the Ultra’s camera sensor potentially having a 1-inch size, which would make it one of the largest on the market.

There could also be enhancements to the S24 Ultra’s telephoto cameras, such as a longer zoom, improved optics, larger sensors, and wider apertures for brighter images. These upgrades might result in a maximum zoom of up to 150x and more impressive variable zoom capabilities.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to replace the telephoto sensor and adopt a new solution. I think the main camera will remain the same or be slightly changed.

Samsung Galaxy S24: Specs and Performance

Unsurprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. This Soc will most likely be found in other Galaxy S24 models as well. Another possibility is the Exynos 2400 chipset, though it’s unlikely to appear in North American models.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is expected to offer better CPU and GPU performance, enhanced image processing, and support for smart AI systems and features. Reports also suggest that the Galaxy S24 could receive a significant graphics boost, potentially outperforming the iPhone 15 Pro.

It’s unclear whether all Galaxy S24 models will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, as some believe Samsung may return to Exynos chipsets for certain models. Regardless, Samsung seems to be working on closing the performance gap between its Exynos-powered Galaxy S models and their Snapdragon counterparts.

Samsung Galaxy S24: RAM and Storage

While it’s uncertain if the Galaxy S24 series will see a RAM upgrade, some leaks suggest that the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus might offer 12GB of RAM instead of the 8GB found in the S23 models. The S24 Ultra, on the other hand, could come with 16GB of RAM.

Additionally, the standard Galaxy S24 model may join the Plus and Ultra variants in offering 256GB of storage with the base model. This would provide users with more storage space for apps, photos, and videos.

Battery and Charging

There’s not much information available about the Galaxy S24’s battery sizes yet. However, we might see the same 3,900mAh, 4,700mAh, and 5,000mAh cells for the regular Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, respectively. The standard S24 could support up to 25W charging, while the Plus and Ultra models could offer 45W charging.

That said, it would be great to see faster charging across the board, especially since the iPhone 15 series is rumored to finally adopt USB-C.

Faster Charging: Samsung’s current flagship models have relatively slow charging speeds. It would be fantastic to see the Galaxy S24 series adopt faster charging rates similar to those offered by OnePlus and other competitors. A shift to 60W charging would be a significant improvement.

More RAM/Storage: The default storage and RAM on the Galaxy S23 series are quite limited for flagship phones. It would be beneficial if Samsung offered more RAM and storage options for the Galaxy S24 series, giving users more flexibility in terms of performance and capacity.

S Pen Upgrades: Samsung could enhance the S Pen stylus that comes with the Galaxy S23 Ultra by adding new features or improving cross-device compatibility. This would provide added value for users and differentiate Samsung’s flagship phones from competitors.

Optional One UI: While this is less likely, some users might appreciate the option to disable Samsung’s One UI customizations for a more “pure” Android experience. This would make Samsung’s flagship phones more appealing to enthusiasts who prefer a cleaner Android interface.

With a plethora of rumors and leaks surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, we can’t wait to see what Samsung has in store for its next flagship lineup. As more information becomes available, we’ll keep this guide updated to provide you with the latest and most accurate details.
