Chinese smartphone brand TECNO unveiled its highly anticipated Camon 30 Premier 5G flagship phone at the Mobile World Congress 2024 on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
Slated to hit the market in Q2 2024, the Camon 30 Premier 5G touts several next-generation camera technologies under an all-new imaging system TECNO calls PolarAce.
While some of the features may seem familiar, PolarAce marks a major upgrade focused on computational photography capabilities.
Advanced PolarAce Imaging System Takes Center Stage
The key component of PolarAce is Sony’s new CXD5622GG image signal processor (ISP). With processing power reaching 4.6 TFLOPS, this ISP surpasses even the Dimensity 8200 Ultra chipset integrated into the Camon 30 Premier 5G.

Such computational muscle enables advanced capabilities like full-scene AI noise reduction for HDR videos — a claimed industry first.
And if you’re wondering what an ISP is, it’s a specialized processor that processes and converts raw digital image data from an image sensor into a color image that can be displayed or stored.

Additionally, the CXD5622GG ISP allows 4K “Ultra Night Vision” video recording at 30fps while consuming less power than conventional ISPs. For reference, an ISP is a specialized processor that converts raw image data into viewable digital images.
Accurate Rendering Promised for All Skin Tones
Besides its sheer imaging performance, TECNO spent considerable time discussing the Camon 30 Premier 5G’s ability to accurately reproduce all skin tones.
An AI-powered technology dubbed Universal Tone aims to ensure natural rendering of skin colors from around the globe. As TECNO’s Global Launch Officer Olivier Mas stated, “Our competitors have focused on one or two skin tones. But we will accurately represent every skin tone in the world.”
The photographic capabilities extend beyond the PolarAce imaging system, too. The rear camera adopts a versatile triple camera configuration featuring:
- 50MP main sensor (Sony IMX890) with OIS
- 50MP periscope lens for 5x optical zoom
- 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens
Together, these three complementary cameras enable up to 70x hybrid zoom, deliver beautiful portraits, and facilitate detailed closeup shots. Even the selfie camera packs a 50MP sensor, promising enhanced quality for all your social media selfies.
Premium Design with Large Display
Visually, the Camon 30 Premier 5G incorporates premium design elements like most 2024 flagships. The circular camera island resembles rangefinder cameras while accommodating a quad-LED flash. I, however, think the overall look aligns closely with recent OnePlus smartphones.
You’ll also find a huge 6.77-inch OLED screen on the front with slim bezels all round. It adopts LTPO technology too, for the first time on a TECNO phone. Thus, the fluid 120 Hz refresh rate aligns perfectly with the 14 ms touch sampling rate for an excellent all-round user experience.
Closing Thoughts
With powerful imaging taking centrestage, the Camon 30 Premier 5G promises to make significant inroads into the premium smartphone space for TECNO.
Of course, real-world performance remains to be validated when the phone launches later this year. But on paper, TECNO seems ready to give its flagship rivals a run for their money in 2024.
