  • Epson L3210: Overall First Impressions

Epson recently sent over the Epson L3210 multifunction printer for review. This affordable printer can print, scan, and copy, making it a versatile choice for home and small office use. After unboxing it and going through the setup, I wanted to share my first impressions of this printer’s features and performance.

Opening the Box

Epson L3210

The L3210 comes securely packed in a sturdy cardboard box. Inside the box you’ll find:

  • Setup guide
  • Power cable
  • The printer
  • Warranty document
  • 4 x 65ml individual ink bottles (Bk,C,Y,M)  + 1 extra black ink bottle
  • Driver and utilities (CD)

One great thing about this printer is that it uses Epson’s unique heat-free inkjet technology and ultra-high capacity ink tanks instead of cartridges. This allows for mess-free refills and extremely low printing costs. However, I found it odd that Epson does not include a USB cable, since you need one to set up the printer and for printing and scanning.

This is because the Epson L3210 does not have any wireless connectivity – you’ll have to rely on a USB connection. Luckily I had a cable on hand, but I think including one in the box makes more sense for the average consumer. For a printer at this price point, a USB cable should really be included for out-of-the-box usability and convenience.

While the high capacity ink tanks are an advantage, the lack of wireless support and USB cable in the box are worth noting.

Intuitive Setup

Setting up the Epson L3210 is fairly straightforward. You’ll need to connect the printer to your laptop using a USB cable, (you’ll have to buy one since one is not included in the box). After connecting, you have two options to install the required software.

You can go to Epson’s support page for the L3210, select your operating system, and download the Drivers and Utilities Combo Package installer file.

Or you can use the Driver and Utilities CD included in the box. Just pop in the CD and follow the prompts to install all necessary drivers and software.

I used the CD with my Windows laptop for initial setup, but either the CD or downloading the combo package will work. The process should be similar for Mac setup as well.

Easy Ink Refilling

Each tank is clearly labeled with color coding and fill lines to show when a refill is needed. The inks provided are enough for up to 8,100 pages in black and 6,500 pages in color. Refilling was quick and clean thanks to the tank’s specially designed nozzles and included bottle tips. No more fussing with cartridges!

Compact, Modern Design

Despite the large ink tanks, the L3210 maintains a relatively compact footprint. It has a sleek, contemporary look in either black or white. The 100-sheet rear paper tray provides ample capacity for day-to-day use. There is also a rear feed for envelopes, photo paper, and other media.

Excellent Print and Scan Quality

I printed some test pages of text and graphics that looked fantastic. Blacks were dark and crisp while color images had vivid, accurate hues. The pages came out quickly and quietly.

The Epson L3210 offers respectable print speeds for an inkjet aimed at home and home office use. When printing 4″x6″ borderless photos from the photo tray, you can expect each print to take about 90 seconds.

Epson L3210 printer

For normal text documents, draft mode prints at up to 33ppm in black and 15ppm in color when using A4 paper. For higher quality printing, speeds are slower but still adequate – around 10ipm black and 5ipm color.

From ready mode, the first page out takes about 10 seconds for black and 16 seconds for color. Overall, the print speeds are in line with other printers in this class and should easily keep up with general home printing needs.

The Epson L3210 isn’t meant for large-volume printing, but for everyday print jobs it delivers good speeds, especially for crisp black text documents.

Epson L3210: Overall First Impressions

Based on my initial experience unboxing and using this printer, I’m very happy with the Epson L3210. It was easy to set up and the ink refilling system is so convenient.

Print, scan, and copy quality is impressive for the price. With its space-saving design and multifunction capabilities, this is an excellent choice for home and home office use
